Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin feels that it’s ironic that Inter defender Francesco Acerbi kept Napoli striker Victor Osimhen quiet, whilst Juventus defender Bremer was unable to.

Tweeting after the match between Juventus and Napoli, in which Osimhen scored a brace and looked virtually unable to, Biasin noted how much this contrasted with the reputation that the two defenders had last summer.

Inter had been linked with former Torino defender Bremer in a high profile transfer saga for much of the summer.

The Nerazzurri missing out on the Brazilian to their rivals Juventus was widely perceived as a major disappointment for the club.

Moreover, the fact that Inter loaned in Acerbi on the final day of the transfer window was not exactly popular with most fans, and was seen as the club having acted desperately to bring in a defender when pursuits of all other targets had failed.

As Biasin highlights, however, Acerbi managed to marshal Napoli striker Osimhen as Inter kept a clean sheet last week, whilst Bremer had a nightmare against the Nigerian striker as his side were blown away 5-1.

He noted, “The most celebrated defender last summer was Bremer, and the most disparaged was Acerbi. The best striker in Serie A is Victor Osimhen.”

“And yet,” he continues, “Acerbi kept Osimhen quiet, while Bremer got destroyed. It’s quite remarkable.”
