The President of the Italian Senate Ignazio La Russa does not expect that there will be any injunction on Inter and AC Milan’s plans to demolish the San Siro coming from the federal government of Italy.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, La Russa made clear that the authority to make decisions of this nature is in the hands of the City Council of Milan.

Inter and Milan are moving forward with their new stadium plans, but one potential obstacle would be if an injunction were granted against demolishing the San Siro.

If the clubs cannot tear down the existing stadium to make way for a new structure then there would be no way for them to move forward within the city of Milan.

As such, the clubs will be closely watching as opponents of demolishing the San Siro seek an injunction of precisely this nature.

According to La Russa, however, the federal government will not be involved one way or another, as he does not consider this to be within their remit.

“The federal government has no intention of placing any injunctions on the demolition of the San Siro,” the President of the Senate said.

“The Minister of Culture Sangiuliano confirmed exactly this to me,” he continued, “and he alone has the authority to determine this.”

“The authority belongs only to the City Council in this situation,” La Russa made clear.
