Inter midfielder Roberto Gagliardini was delighted to have featured in this evening’s 1-0 win over Hellas Verona in Serie A, just days on from playing in the Coppa Italia against Parma.
The former Atalanta player has become a bit-part player at Inter this season and has struggled for playing time under coach Simone Inzaghi, but was named in the starting line-up at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza after injuries to Marcelo Brozovic and Nicolo Barella.
In an interview with Italian television broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the final whistle, and as reported by FCInterNews.it, Gagliardini admitted that it was challenging to compete in two matches in quick succession after featuring so sparsely, but was delighted to have been involved in the win.
“It’s not easy to play little, but I try to do my best. It’s been a long time since I played two matches in a row and I’m happy to have contributed to the victory,” the 28-year-old said.
Having been taken to extra-time against Serie B club Parma in the Coppa Italia in Tuesday, Inter made a flying start against Verona and secured victory with a Lautaro Martinez goal scored after just three minutes.
“It was good to score straight away, as we knew that Verona play man-to-man and we were clear in turning the ball over and then going for goal.
“We were coming from 120 minutes against Parma, the victory is the most important thing.”
Gagliardini is out of contract at Inter at the end of the season, but revealed that he wasn’t ready to make a decision on his future just yet as he sought more playing time, whilst insisting that he had proven himself up to the standard of a club like Inter.
“In my career I have had high level coaches and I have created experiences that I will always carry with me. If I came to Inter, it was because of my work ethic.
“My contract? I don’t intend to have this amount of minutes anymore. I feel I can still give a lot, I have a lot of desire to prove myself and so in June I will make my decisions,” he added.
Gagliardini joined Inter from Atalanta in 2017 and has scored 16 goals in 174 appearances, winning the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia with the club.
