Young Inter midfielder Gaetano Oristanio feels that Volendam has been the right place for this stage in his career.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in the SportWeek insert in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the 20-year-old explained why being on loan with the Dutch club has been the right environment for him to grow into the senior professional game.

Oristanio joined Volendam on loan during the summer of 2021, following in the footstep of Inter Primavera teammate Samuele Mulattieri who had enjoyed a positive loan spell with the Dutch club.

When the 20-year-old joined Volendam they were in the Dutch second division, the Eerste Divisie, but he and fellow Nerazzurri loanee Filip Stankovic helped them to promotion to the Eredivisie at the end of last season.

This convinced the duo, as well as Inter, to extend their loan spell to this campaign so that they could gain top flight experience in an environment where they had the trust of the coaching staff.

Oristanio explained that “Coming here has helped me grow a lot.”

“Playing abroad, they give a lot of trust to young players, who have the freedom to try things and mistakes,” he added.
