The semi-automated offside technology will be used for the first time in an Italian football match in Wednesday’s Supercoppa Italiana clash between Inter and AC Milan.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the newly-introduced technology will make its debut as the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri face off in Saudi Arabia in midweek.
The Lega Serie A has decided to introduce new technology on offside decisions as part of the VAR process.
The new semi-automated offside technology is hoped to make offside decisions more accurate and avoid controversies such as the one which arose when Juventus had a potential late winner ruled out for offside in a Serie A clash with Salernitana when it appeared to be clearly on.
The technology has not been used in a match in any Italian football competition yet, but will make its first appearance in Wednesday’s Supercoppa match according to the Corriere.
