Inter centre-back Alessandro Bastoni admitted that the Nerazzurri must find more consistency on the road after securing a 1-0 home win over Hellas Verona in Serie A yesterday.

Simone Inzaghi’s side ran out victors at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza thanks to an early Lautaro Martinez goal, and have enjoyed a far superior defensive record at the San Siro than in away games in Serie A this season.

In an interview with inhouse television channel Inter TV, and as reported by FCInterNews.it, Bastoni was pleased to have helped the Nerazzurri keep a clean sheet, but confessed that the poor record in away games needed to be improved.

“We are happy with the clean sheet because it is our main objective. Before going forward there is the one of not conceding goals, so we are happy with tonight’s performance,” the Italy international claimed.

“Our away form is a question I’ve already been asked and I struggle to give an explanation. We try to be careful and give 100% in every game. Verona, we knew, had in Djuric a target man, and we were good at limiting him and his fellow attackers.”

Meanwhile, the defender felt that Inter had done well to overcome a good team in Verona, despite their lowly league position as they find themselves in 19th place.

“We knew that Verona are a team that make the opponent play badly, we were good at adapting to their game, being solid, fighting and bringing home the three points.”

Inter must now turn their attention to the Supercoppa Italiana against AC Milan in Riyadh on Wednesday, and Bastoni was looking forward to facing the Nerazzurri’s bitter rivals for silverware.

“For sure it’s a great match that we won last year. We are aware that it will be tough because, apart from the derby, it is also a final. But we are ready and we are aware that it can also give us a lot emotionally and we want to win it,” the 23-year-old added.

Bastoni joined Inter from Atalanta in 2017 and has made 138 appearances for the club in all competitions.
