Inter have been handed a boost ahead of the Supercoppa Italiana match against AC Milan, after midfielder Nicolo Barella proved his fitness in the win over Hellas Verona yesterday.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italy international recovered from an injury that forced him off in the 2-2 draw against Monza last weekend, and took his place on the bench as Inter ran out 1-0 winners in the Serie A game against Verona.

Barella was introduced as a second half substitute and is now expected to start against Milan in Riyadh on Wednesday, alongside Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

It is welcome news for coach Simone Inzaghi, particularly in light of the unavailability of Marcelo Brozovic due to his own injury troubles.

The former Cagliari midfielder sat out Inter’s 2-1 win over Parma in the Coppa Italia in midweek after a muscle injury against Monza, and was a doubt for the match against Verona, but has now fully recovered.

Inzaghi will be without goalkeeper Samir Handanovic against Milan, whilst striker Romelu Lukaku faces a late fitness test in his bid to be involved in the match at the King Fahd Stadium.
