Inter striker Romelu Lukaku is facing a race against time to be available for the Supercoppa Italiana clash against AC Milan on Wednesday.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi is almost certain to start Lautaro Martinez in attack after his match-winning display in the 1-0 victory over Hellas Verona in Serie A yesterday.

It remains to be seen who will partner the Argentina international though, with Lukaku suffering another injury last week that has put his involvement in the Super Cup match in Saudi Arabia in doubt.

Lukaku will attempt to prove his fitness in the final training sessions building up to the match on Wednesday, but Inter’s efforts to reforge the strike partnership with Martinez that worked so well before Lukaku’s transfer to Chelsea in 2021 have so far failed.

The Belgium international returned to Inter on loan last summer but has been hampered by injuries all season, and has struggled for form even when fit.
