Young Inter midfielder Giovanni Fabbian could be recalled to the Nerazzurri’s first team as a replacement for Roberto Gagliardini next season.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the 19-year-old could be promoted from within now that Gagliardini looks all but certain to leave on a free transfer at the end of the current season.

There looks to be little doubt regarding the future of Gagliardini, and the former Atalanta midfielder’s comments after yesterday evening’s Serie A win over Hellas Verona only further confirm that he is set to join a new club next summer.

The 28-year-old’s departure will leave a vacancy in Inter’s midfield, which the club will be looking to fill with a player who is capable of adding depth and replacing the physical and disciplined profile of Gagliardini.

The Nerazzurri could well look to the transfer market to replace Gagliardini, but alternatively, they could decide to turn to a player who they already have under contract to fill the vacancy.

Given the financial constraints faced by the club, it could certainly be advantageous for Inter to avoid having to pay a transfer fee or add another player to their wage bill.

Fabbian is a player who came through the Nerazzurri’s youth ranks, and the 19-year-old has already taken a big step into the senior professional game with his loan spell with Serie B club Reggina this campaign.

Inter (3-5-2): Onana; Skriniar, Acerbi, Bastoni; Darmian, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Dzeko, Lautaro Martinez. All. Inzaghi

Accordingly, Inter are seriously considering Fabbian as a possibility to replace Gagliardini.
