Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has always managed to be the spark in Inter’s attack even as the team’s form has taken numerous ups and downs.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews, who note how the Argentine’s consistency leading the line has been a rare constant in a season where the Nerazzurri’s form has sometimes looked like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Martinez’s goal against Hellas Verona on Saturday took his tally in Serie A to nine for the season, with his total in all competitions eleven.

This is a good haul for this stage in the campaign, but doesn’t really reflect the full scope of Martinez’ contribution to the Nerazzurri.

The 25-year-old has been a constant presence leading the line without the ball, pressing from the front and setting the tone defensively by never allowing opponents time and space on the ball.

Moreover, Martinez’s ability to hold onto the ball and win fouls has been key to giving the Nerazzurri a foothold in the final third even when the team is not playing well.

When Inter are at their best as a collective, Martinez has proven to be the tip of a very effective spear.

When the team as a whole look to be struggling, however, the Argentine has been the man who Inter can count on to contribute at the same level that he always has.
