Inter midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is expecting that the Nerazzurri will treat tomorrow’s Supercoppa Italiana match against AC Milan as an absolutely must-win match.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, the Armenian stressed the importance of the derby rivalry, and also spoke about how vital Lautaro Martinez is to the team.

Inter come up against Milan in a final for just the third time in the two clubs’ respective histories tomorrow.

Accordingly, whilst the Supercoppa is always an important match, the fact that it will also be a Milan derby will add another layer of significance for the teams.

As far as Mkhitaryan is concerned, tomorrow’s match will be one in which the Nerazzurri will do absolutely everything that they can.

“Derbies are unique,” the midfielder said ahead of tomorrow’s match, “we know that we’re coming up against our derby rivals tomorrow, and we have to do everything to win.”

The 33-year-old former Roma midfielder continued that “We hope to win this trophy, it won’t be easy because we know Milan are a good team.”

“But we’ll do everything to bring home the first trophy on offer this season,” he went on.

Of the importance of striker Martinez, Mkhitaryan said that “He’s a fundamentally important player for us and he gives us a huge help, he’s scored a lot in the last few matches, and we hope he can do so again tomorrow.”

Mkhitaryan added of tomorrow’s match that “We have to play an ideal match, we can’t afford to make errors.”
