Inter and AC Milan could risk putting too much into this Wednesday’s Supercoppa Italiana match, at the expense of trying to catch up in the Serie A title race.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews, who argue that the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri pushing for the Supercoppa could be beneficial to Napoli as they look to maintain their lead at the top of the Serie A table.

Both and Inter and Milan are totally focused on the Supercoppa for the time being.

Both derby rivals are expected to play their strongest available lineup as they go head-to-head for their first piece of silverware of the season.

The issue is that, when Wednesday’s match is over, both the winner and the loser will have little time to catch their breath before they are forced to return to Serie A.

At least ninety, and potentially 120 minutes of football played at full tilt and with all of the first-choice starters use may provide spectacle and the opportunity for short-terms glory for the Milan derby clubs.

When the dust settles and the team return to Italy from Saudi Arabia, however, they will be right back in the thick of a gruelling fixture schedule, and if they’ve spent too much energy on one another they may struggle to adjust.
