Legendary former Juventus forward Alessandro Del Piero believes that Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is a top-level player who can lead the Nerazzurri into the future, but also has a few aspects of his game which need refinement.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the Bianconeri legend gave his thoughts on Martinez’s level, suggesting that he just needs to improve upon a couple aspects of how he plays.

By now, Martinez is widely seen as one of Inter’s most important players.

The Argentine leads the line for the Nerazzurri in most matches, and his combination of relatively consistent goalscoring along with defensive workrate and linkup play has meant that he is a player who the team really look to build around.

As far as Del Piero is concerned, Martinez can become a player of top quality, although there is still room for the 25-year-old to grow and improve.

“I think Lautaro needs to take advantage of the situation he’s found for himself,” the former Juventus forward said.

“He’s a world champions, he wasn’t a starter in Qatar but he showed how decisive he can be with his penalty against the Netherlands.”

Del Piero went on to argue that “You need a couple more attributes than that, let’s say four really top qualities instead of two.”

“He has to be aware of this need to improve, and add those two or three more aspects to his game so that he can re-emerge as the starter for Argentina, and consistently score goals for Inter especially when Lukaku is absent.”
