Former Inter defender Fulvio Collovati believes that current Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi could be fighting to secure his future at the club in this evening’s Supercoppa Italiana match against AC Milan.

Speaking to Italian news outlet FCInter1908, Collovati gave the view that the outcome of this evening’s match against the Rossoneri could be important in establishing that Inzaghi’s position at the Nerazzurri is secure.

Despite the fact that Inzaghi signed a contract extension at Inter in the summer, there have been some doubts raised about how much longer he can remain at the helm as the team have suffered some setbacks throughout the season so far.

The coach has always answered these doubts by guiding the team to some important performances and results, but the fact remains that he is not without his critics.

In the view of Collovati, Inzaghi could well need another big performance from his team in this evening’s Supercoppa Italiana match if he is to make absolutely sure of his position going into the future.

“I think that Inzaghi is playing for his future a bit tonight,” the former defender argued.

“Despite the fact that the team won two cup competitions last season, the fact that they failed to win the Scudetto did not go down well with fans.”
