Former Inter, Atletico Madrid, and Lazio striker Christian Vieri feels that the Nerazzurri have shown that they can play excellent football even without Romelu Lukaku leading their line.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the former striker praised the Nerazzurri for coping well stylistically despite the lengthy absences of Lukaku through injury.

The high-profile return of Lukaku from Chelsea during the summer transfer window may have led many to expect that Inter would rebuild their entire style of play around the Belgian.

Accordingly, the fact that Lukaku has hardly been able to feature due to injury, and has not looked at his best when he has played, could well have a very damaging effect on the team’s efforts.

However, the Nerazzurri have found solutions in the Belgian’s absence.

For his part, Vieri has been very impressed by how his former team have coped without Lukaku.

“Inter have Lukaku, who’s hardly been able to play since he’s returned,” the former striker said.

“But they still play great football,” he continued, “they played an excellent match against Napoli.”

“They didn’t shine against Verona, but in general they know how to play good football.”
