Legendary former Inter defender Marco Materazzi feels that the Nerazzurri have gotten off to a great start in 2023.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, the former defender noted that Inter’s only misstep this season could be blamed on a refereeing error in the disappointing 2-2 draw away to Monza.

Two wins and one draw in Serie A is certainly not a bad haul for Inter, although it’s not necessarily what the team will have been wanting to haul themselves back into the title race.

Meanwhile, the extra time progression against Parma in the Coppa Italia last week arguably looks better in light of the fact that both AC Milan and Torino have now also been dumped out of the competition, by Torino and Cremonese respectively.

In Materazzi’s view, it has been the right way to kick off the restart of the club season, and could have been even better but for a questionable piece of refereeing that proved costly against Monza.

“Inter have gotten off to a great start in 2023, apart from the draw against Monza, but that’s hardly their fault as everyone could see the refereeing error,” he said.

“They must keep going like this and then hope for slip-ups from teams in front of them as far as the Serie A title race is concerned.”
