Inter President Steven Zhang feels that there is no question of the club’s ambition to win trophies under his leadership.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset after the Nerazzurri’s 3-0 win over AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana, via FCInterNews, the President stressed that this evening’s victory is another example of the club’s pursuit of silverware.

Over the past couple of season, Zhang and Inter owners Suning have come in for a significant amount of criticism for their running of the Nerazzurri.

Financial constraints have left many with the perception that the owners have little intention of genuinely strengthening the team and pushing for the highest honours.

Howeverl, Zhang has always publicly brushed these criticisms aside, as the President feels that even with the financial struggles that have characterized recent transfer windows, the Nerazzurri are still a team with ambition under his leadership.

“Winning a derby and winning a trophy is always exciting,” Zhang said after the match.

“Six years ago we started this project, and so winning a fourth title here is very rewarding for us.”

When it was pointed out that he is now the fourth-most successful President in Inter’s history in terms of trophies, Zhang replied that “For me it’s been an unforgettable journey.”

“I thank everyone who’s been on this path with me, and everyone who will continue to be,” the President added, “directors, executives, coaching staff.”

“As long as I’m President, our project is focused on winning trophies, as a team and as a club,” Zhang said.

And when asked if he thinks that it will be possible to catch Napoli in the Serie A title race, the President remarked that “There’s still a long way to go in both the league and the Champions League.”

“Everything is still to play for and anything can happen, we’re aiming for the maximum,” he closed.
