Inter wingback Matteo Darmian is very pleased to have won the Supercoppa Italiana, and even moreso to have done so by beating city rivals AC Milan.
Speaking to InterTV after the match, via FCInterNews, the 33-year-old gave his reaction to a victory which saw the Nerazzurri pick up their first piece of silverware of the season, and do so by getting an emphatic win over the Rossoneri in the derby.
Inter have successfully defender their Supercoppa trophy from last season, and they have done so by winning a fixture that is always of massive importance to them.
The 3-0 win will accordingly be doubly special to Darmian and his teammates, who proved their superiority to the Rossoneri on the night, scoring three without reply.
The 33-year-old former Manchester United and Parma man helped the team to a clean sheet with his display down the Nerazzurri’s right flank, keeping Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez quiet.
“We’re really happy when we can take home a trophy, it’s always something special for us,” the wingback said.
“And then it was a derby so we enjoyed it even more.”
“We know our quality, but we have to always take to the pitch the way that we did this evening,” Darmian continued.
“We know that we are trailing a bit in the league table, we dropped a few points towards the beginning,” he added.
“Now we will have to be ruthless until the end of the season.”
Of the impact that winning the Supercoppa can have on the rest of the Nerazzurri’s season, Darmian explained that “Winning helps you to win more, it gives us more confidence in ourselves.”
“Now we’re enjoying celebrating this evening, but starting from tomorrow we have to focus on the league again,” he concluded.
