Inter striker Lautaro Martinez entered the Nerazzurri’s all-time top ten goalscorers with his strike against AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana yesterday.

This is highlighted by Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who note that the 25-year-old has drawn level with former striker Attilio Demaria, and did so in some style with his side-footed finish to put the seal on a derby win over the Rossoneri.

Martinez won’t likely have been thinking about statistics when he brushed past Rossoneri defender Fiyako Tomori and flicked the ball past Ciprian Tatrusanu, and certainly not as he rushed towards the Nerazzurri supporters to celebrate the goal and the inevitable victory.

However, when the dust of the moment and the trophy settle, the statistics now say that the Argentine has scored twelve times for Inter this season.

Martinez has done so in all four competitions in which he has played at club level, and has now found the back of the net in each of his last four matches for the Nerazzurri.

This means that the 25-year-old has now scored a total of 86, which takes him level with Demaria, one of the club’s greats from the 1930s and the tenth-highest goalscorer in its history.

Now, Martinez will feel that it is all but certain that he can start to move up in the standings as time goes by.
