Italian journalist Marco Barzaghi feels that Inter made sure that defender Milan Skriniar did not speak to the media before or after the Supercoppa Italiana so that he did not have to answer tough questions about his contract situation.
Reporting on his YouTube channel, Barzaghi explained that as far as he can tell, the Nerazzurri made a point of not having the 27-year-old as one of the players to answer questions so that the contract extension talks between he and the club would not be brought up.
Skriniar’s contract situation at Inter is now well known, whilst reports yesterday suggested that the player has now decided that he does not intend to accept his team’s contract extension offer.
This would come as a blow to the club as well as the team on the pitch, and potentially be very demoralizing.
There is little doubt that, were Skriniar to speak to the media, he would be asked questions about his future at Inter, and so according to Barzaghi the club simply made sure that this would not happen.
“During the Supercoppa, Skriniar was protected,” he explained, “he was not allowed to speak before or after the match, which was to prevent him from, well I don’t want to say spoiling the party, but certainly putting a damper.”
