Legendary former Inter President Massimo Moratti feels that the Nerazzurri showed clear superiority over city rivals AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italia.
Speaking to Italian news outlet DailyMilan.it, Moratti stressed how he felt that the 3-0 win was fully-deserved, and also praised the continued performance levels of 36-year-old striker Edin Dzeko.
Miln derbies are always expected to be tight affairs, as even when the two city rivals are in contrasting form they often seem to save their very best performances for one another.
However, on Wednesday evening the Nerazzurri ripped up this rulebook by looking to take control of the match from the first minute until the last.
The Rossoneri had a few moments where they looked dangerous, but never a sustained spell of control, whilst it was Inter who always looked to be playing the way they wanted to on the way to an emphatic victory.
“It was a great match, not one of those games where it’s decided by one or two moments of fortune,” Moratti said of the Nerazzurri’s win.
“The second part of the first half was very enjoyable to watch.”
“Inter dominated the match and there looked to be a big gap between the two teams on the pitch,” the former President continued.
“This was true both in terms of the quality of their play, and the enthusiasm and intensity that the players showed,” he elaborated.
“Milan certainly took to the pitch looking less lively.”
“I don’t know if it’s a physical or a psychological issue,” the former Inter President said of the Rossonero, “but at the moment they’re out of form, they look exhausted.”
“But I think the World Cup break also had an influence in that respect.”
Asked who he would consider to be the man of the match, Moratti replied that “I’d say Dzeko.”
“At nearly 37 he continues to play top-class football, and last night’s goal just confirms it.”
“He dominated the opposition defense and scored a brilliant goal, which has become a symbol of a great Supercoppa win,” he said of the Bosnian.
