Inter are growing increasingly wary of losing Alessandro Bastoni as a free agent next summer, after being stung by fellow centre-back Milan Skriniar.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, the Nerazzurri are bracing themselves for the departure of Skriniar on a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, with the Slovakia international’s contract due to expire in June.
Bastoni’s deal runs until the summer of 2024 and Inter are cautious about finding themselves in the same position with him this time next year, and so tying him down to a new deal is their priority.
The Italian international is thought to be happy at Inter and has a strong relationship with the club, with the Nerazzurri hoping to secure a long-term contract before the end of the season.
However, should no agreement be met, they will consider putting Bastoni up for sale this summer to ensure that they receive a significant transfer fee for him, rather than risk losing him for nothing next year.
