Inter are hoping to haul themselves right back into Serie A title contention with a win over Empoli this evening.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri still believe in the title, but are well aware of the need to produce a response to league leaders Napoli’s victory over Salernitana on Saturday.

Inter got a big boost in confidence by winning the Supercoppa Italiana against AC Milan last week, and the sense is that the team are keen to carry this momentum over into the difficult task of trying to catch Napoli in the league over the second half of the season.

The Partenopei poured a bit of cold water on any suggestion that this will be a straightforward task by cruising to a 2-0 win against a tough Salernitana team over the weekend, temporarily extending the gap to thirteen points over Inter.

However, the Nerazzurri feel that if they can respond with a win of their own over Empoli then they can get the wind in their sails and put the pressure right back on the league leaders.
