There were no saving graces or bright spots for Inter in what proved to be a disastrous evening against Empoli yesterday evening.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who argue that the team could hardly receive more of a reason to be demoralized than last night’s showing.
If Inter had hoped to build on the momentum of last week’s Supercoppa Italiana win by beating Empoli in Serie A, the Tuscans had other ideas, and so it seemed did the Nerazzurri themselves.
The shock red card to Milan Skriniar in the first half, coming almost concurrently with the release of an interview with his agent that confirmed the 27-year-old isn’t extending his contract and is in talks with other clubs, was certainly a decisive factor.
However, long before the red card Inter looked like a poor imitation of themselves.
The team looked like, instead of being high on confidence after their Supercoppa triumph over the Rossoneri, they were exhausted and demoralized.
