If Inter are left wondering what has gone wrong with them over the first half of the season, they must look at the difference between their home and away form in Serie A for a major clue.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who note that the Nerazzurri’s home defensive record is the best in the Italian top flight, but that away from San Siro they are third from bottom, an incredible discrepancy.

Inter have picked up a number of important wins at the San Siro this season, not least their 1-0 triumph over Napoli at the start of this month.

Going purely by their home form, the Nerazzurri would have real Serie A title credentials, particularly given their ability to keep teams off the scoresheet when playing in front of their home fans.

Away from home, however, Inter’s form particularly defensively is nothing short of a horror-show, as only Bologna and Salernitana have conceded more than the twenty goals that Inter have done over the first nine home matches of the campaign.

This means that Simone Inzaghi’s team have been shipping more than two goals a game on average on their travels.

If the coach can get the Nerazzurri’s form away from the San Siro to resemble that when they’re playing at their home stadium, their overall form should certainly improve.

If not, however, Inter could be in real trouble over the second half of the campaign.
