The representatives of Inter midfielder Marcelo Brozovic have denied that he has taken his physical recovery into his own hands.

In an interview with FCInterNews.it, representatives of the Croatia international dismissed concerns over the midfielder’s physical condition and suggestions that he was attempting to overcome a niggling muscle injury with treatment that hadn’t been sanctioned by the club.

“Marcelo has never received medical care or treatment without the full knowledge and approval of Inter,” they claimed.

“Just like the speculation about Marcelo’s departure from Inter last year, all media speculation this year is wrong. Unfortunately, we live in an era where anyone can write unfounded rumours in the media without official quotes from Inter or Marcelo.”

Brozovic had struggled with injury since picking up a thigh strain in Croatia’s UEFA Nations League match against Denmark in September, and only returned to action in November.

The 30-year-old recovered in time to feature at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, but was injured again during his side’s 3-0 defeat to eventual winners Argentina in the semi-final.

Brozovic has been limited to just 10 Serie A appearances and a further two games in the Champions League for Inter this season.
