Inter defender Francesco Acerbi has warned that his teammates need to consider their mentality and remember that they are expected to win every game.

The Nerazzurri had to come from behind to defeat bottom club Cremonese 2-1 in Serie A this evening, with a Lautaro Martinez brace sparing their blushes at the Stadio Giovanni Zini.

In an interview with the club’s inhouse television channel Inter TV after the final whistle, and as reported by FCInterNews.it, the former Lazio defender was pleased to see a reaction after conceding early, and urged the team to build on the victory.

“We are Inter and we have to get it in our heads that we have to win against anyone,” Acerbi declared.

“The attitude is what counts and what makes us progress in all competitions, today it was there, and it has to be the starting point for a great team.”

Acerbi admitted that Inter had come up against a tough opponent, despite Cremonese propping up the Serie A table, and pointed to Juventus’ stoppage time 1-0 over them at the start of January as proof of this.

“Every team that comes to play here struggles, even Juve struggled. We prepared quite well, they scored a lucky goal. If you don’t take control of these matches you risk even drawing them and that would have been a mockery, but today we had to win and we did.”

The Lazio loanee picked up a yellow card after a mistake in the first half but showed good discipline to see out the remainder of the match, and felt that concentration was key to this.

“In the first half I made a mistake, I wanted to give it to the goalkeeper and then it stayed there. A player at 23 but also at 35 must always be alert and focused, that’s the main skill of a defender.

“I always try to do my part and help out, always knowing that I will be cautioned, you have to stay focused, but it can happen to get a second booking, although it would be better not to. Fortunately today it went well,” the former Sassuolo defender concluded.
