Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has emerged as a potential captain to replace outgoing defender Milan Skriniar, after starring in the role against Cremonese.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Libero, the Argentina international thrived after being handed the captain’s armband yesterday, scoring twice to lead Inter to a 2-1 win at the Stadio Giovanni Zini in Serie A.

With Skriniar suspended after his red card against Empoli last week, the armband went to Martinez and it is thought that the striker could be the long-term option.

Skriniar is on the verge of completing a move to Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expires at the end of the season, whilst club captain Samir Handanovic has lost his place in the team to Andre Onana.

Meanwhile, the newspaper argued that Martinez was a reminder of how Inter could find success in the transfer market, with the Nerazzurri swooping for him from Racing Club in 2018 before any Premier League club could pounce.

They also took advantage of a strong relationship with Racing director Diego Milito, following his distinguished playing career at Inter, to secure a deal, and Martinez’s value has tripled since his €25 million arrival.
