Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries showed signs of lacking match fitness during the Nerazzurri’s 2-1 win over Cremonese in Serie A yesterday.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, the Netherlands international made his first start for three games in the match at the Stadio Giovanni Zini and looked solid, if rusty at times.

Dumfries picked up an injury during the Netherlands’ run to the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar before Christmas, and had played only 25 minutes of action since the return of Serie A at the start of the month.

However, he completed the full 90 minutes of the match against Cremonese and was awarded a 6 in the newspaper’s player ratings, with a noticeable improvement in his performance in the second half but many wasted crosses.

Dumfries joined Inter from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven in 2021 and has made 69 appearances for the Nerazzurri in all competitions, scoring seven goals.
