Former Inter midfielder Benoit Cauet has urged the club to keep hold of defender Milan Skriniar this month, despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Skriniar is out of contract at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in June and appears set to join PSG next season, but it is reported that the Ligue 1 club are keen to bring him in immediately, with Inter ready to sell should they receive a suitable offer.

However, in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Radio 24 yesterday, and as reported by FCInter1908.it, Cauet warned that the Nerazzurri needed Skriniar if they were to secure qualification to the Champions League through Serie A this term, as well progress further in Europe.

“Milan has shown he is an absolutely essential player, Inter need him both in the league and in the Champions League,” the Frenchman declared.

“I believe the Nerazzurri cannot and should not give up Skriniar in January.”

Cauet joined Inter from PSG in 1997 and made 147 appearances for the Nerazzurri until signing for Torino in 2001.

The former Marseille star lifted the UEFA Cup in his first season with Inter, and was named the club’s player of the year in 1999.
