Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is by far the player who fans of the Nerazzurri want most to see inherit the captain’s armband from current captain Samir Handanovic.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who name the Argentine as the player who the vast majority of Inter fans have expressed a desire to see wearing the armband henceforth on social media.

Handanovic remains Inter’s club captain despite having been relegated to a backup role in the team, whilst defender Milan Skriniar has been wearing the armband in the majority of the team’s matches this season.

The fact that Skriniar has made clear that he intends to leave to join Paris Saint-Germain has meant that the Slovakian is very unlikely to ever wear the armband again.

Martinez has been given the armband on a couple occasions this season, and in the view of most Nerazzurri fans, he is the right man for it at this stage.

Despite only being 25 years of age, Martinez has been at Inter since 2018 and has grown into a leader figure both behind the scenes and on the pitch.

For this reason, the Argentine is favoured by most fans to become permanent captain when Handanovic is gone.
