Inter are not likely to move for Atalanta defender Merih Demiral during the summer transfer window after having missed out on him in January.

This according to Italian news outlet Calciomercato.com, who report that the Nerazzurri would be keener on Demiral’s teammate Giorgio Scalvini, who is seen as more of a long-term signing.

Demiral had emerged as Inter’s main target to replace Milan Skriniar immediately should the 27-year-old have left last month.

However, Skriniar did not leave before the transfer deadline, so the Nerazzurri did not move for the former Sassuolo and Juventus defender.

The Nerazzurri will still have to replace Skriniar in the summer, as the Slovakian is set to leave at the end of the season.

However, Calciomercato reports, Demiral will not be the player who they move for.

The news outlet reports that Inter’s strategy was to move for the Turk as an immediately available like-for-like replacement for Skriniar on short notice last month, but that for the summer their strategy will be different.

Scalvini will cost significantly more than the €20-25 million that Demiral has been valued at, but would also be seen as more of a long-term signing.
