Inter wingback Robin Gosens feels that he showed how valuable he can be to the Nerazzurri with his performance in the team’s 1-0 win over Atalanta in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset after the match, via FCInterNews, the 28-year-old noted that he’s happy to have put in a good performance in a chance to start ahead of Federico Dimarco on the left.

Gosens has not started often for this evening, with Dimarco establishing himself as the first-choice left-wingback following the departure of Ivan Perisic.

The German has not always shown a consistently high level in the opportunities he has been given either, with his performance levels yet to really resemble those of his best periods in an Atalanta shirt.

However, against his old side La Dea, Gosens put in a good shift on both sides of the ball.

“We wanted to reach the semifinals at all costs because we already showed last season how brilliant it can be to win the Coppa Italia,” he said.

“We played this match in the right way and we deserved to win.”

As to what he can improve upon, Gosens admitted that “I lack match rhythm from not playing for a while.”

“I’m getting better and that makes me happy, but to be at 100% I’ll have to find the rhythm of the game again,” he added.

“I’m happy that the coach put his trust in me,” he added, “I think I’ve repaid it.”

“I feel good, even in training I feel I’m the player I want to be, and then I have to accept that Federico Dimarco is in extraordinary form, but I’m committed to giving Inzaghi a tough decision to make,” he added.

Gosens noted that “We’re still in three competitions, we’ll fight for the Scudetto until the end even if it will be difficult.”

“I want to help the team and so I put in a lot of work to be ready when I’m called upon.”
