Inter President Steven Zhang pushed well beyond €7 million net per season in a contract extension offer to defender Milan Skriniar, but the player ultimately was unconvinced.

This according to Italian journalist Marco Barzaghi, who reported in a YouTube video that the Nerazzurri President went as far as creeping up close to the offer made by Paris Saint-Germain as he desperately pushed to secure Skriniar’s future, but that the player and his representatives declined.

Skriniar has made his decision, and the Slovakian former Sampdoria defender will be on his way on the summer, joining Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer when his contract with Inter expires.

The fact that the Parisians have been offering the 27-year-old far more than the Nerazzurri to sign looks to have been a crucial factor in his decision.

However, Barzaghi reports, this did not come from a lack of effort by the Nerazzurri, as he explains that when it became clear that Skriniar was ready to sign for PSG, Inter President Zhang made every effort to convince him with a financially higher offer.

“There’s some sensational new background that Inter have let us know about,” the journalist said.

“Steven Zhang tried absolutely everything to convince him to stay, even going well beyond €7 million net per season, close to the offer from Paris Saint-Germain, but by that point there was not even a slight chance of the player and his entourage opening up,” explained.
