Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu was at the very heart of Inter’s Coppa Italia victory over Atalanta yesterday evening.

This is the view of Italian news outlet FCInter1908, who gave the 28-year-old a score of 7.5/10 in the player ratings for the match, praising the Turk in particular for setting the tempo of the match throughout.

With each match that goes by, Calhanoglu only gives further indications of how comfortably he has settled into his new role as a regista for Inter.

The former AC Milan midfielder started against La Dea yesterday, and he was crucial in keeping Gian Piero Gasperini’s team from really imposing themselves by playing at the frenetic pace that they are capable of.

Calhanoglu’s accurate passing and sense of the game meant that the Nerazzurri were able to consolidate possession to keep Atalanta from really getting in behind them with any sort of pace, and was also the platform from which they were able to build attack.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the ball, Calhanoglu continued to show that he is more than up to the defensive demands of the deep-lying midfield role.
