Versatile Inter wingback Matteo Darmian made sure that his team did not miss the presence of Milan Skriniar in yesterday evening’s Coppa Italia quarterfinal match against Atalanta.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews, who praise the 33-year-old for yet another excellent display as he continues to be the Nerazzurri’s “Mr. Reliable.”

Darmian filled in on the right side of the back three as he had done against Cremonese, playing in place of Skriniar who was left out amid a transfer soap opera that has reached a fever pitch.

The Nerazzurri were crying out for a calm and dependable presence in place of the Slovakian, and Darmian proved to be just that.

The former Manchester United man’s display was exactly what was needed to make sure that the team did not look nervous or unsettled by the events off the pitch that had forced him into the role in defense in the first place.

Darmian scored the game’s only goal brilliantly with his weaker foot, certainly the most eye-catching aspect of his performance.

In truth, however, it was an outstanding two-way display of the sort that Inter have come to expect from Darmian whether he is playing on the flank or on the right side of the defense.

The 33-year-old got his tackles and defensive positioning right, whilst he ventured forward to good effect.
