Inter wingback Federico Dimarco has grown into a vitally important player for the Nerazzurri this season, and he has done so on multiple levels.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who note that the 25-year-old has been a driver of Inter’s momentum both on and off the pitch.

In terms of Dimarco’s performances on the pitch, the Italian international has had big shoes to fill in the form of departed wingback Ivan Perisic.

The Croat had arguably been the Nerazzurri’s standout player last season, and it was always going to be a big unknown how well the club would be able to replicate his contributions this season.

Dimarco has stepped in, and put his own stamp on the team to make the Nerazzurri’s left flank his own.

In so doing, the 25-year-old has ensured that Inter have not looked like a team who miss Perisic.

Meanwhile, the Gazzetta notes, off the pitch Dimarco’s lifelong commitment to Inter has been important in instilling the right mindset in the dressing room.

Dimarco grew up as a Nerazzurri supporter and came through the youth ranks at the Nerazzurri, before developing within the senior professional game over a series of loan spell.

Since the start of last season, Dimarco has achieved his dream of playing in Serie A and the Champions League wearing an Inter shirt, and his passion and enthusiasm have become infectious for the squad.

In a period where plenty of ups and downs both on and off the pitch have threatened to undermine morale and bring an air of uncertainty to the dressing room, Dimarco’s single-minded passion has been key to motivating his teammates at times.
