Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi feels that, regardless of other factors, the matches against AC Milan are always the most important of the Nerazzurri’s season.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the former defender gave his thoughts ahead of tomorrow evening’s derby clash between Inter and the Rossoneri.

Inter will face off against their city rivals for the third time this season tomorrow evening, with each of the two sides having won one and lost one so far.

Neither of the city rivals look likely to be in contention for the Serie A title this season, given their distance in the table from league leaders Napoli.

However, the atmosphere of the match is nevertheless likely to be very charged up, as the derby is always a real showpiece occasion of Italian football no matter what the circumstances surrounding it are.

“It’s the most important match of the season,” Bergomi said of the derby, “there’s nothing more to it.”

And asked whether he thinks that the Nerazzurri will head into the match with extra confidence after having beaten the Rossoneri 3-0 in the Supercoppa Italiana, Bergomi replied that “It’s unforgivable to think like that.”

“The whole slate is wiped clean,” he suggested.

“The derby is a match that you win once you don’t accept the possibility of losing it.”

“It’s not the form that the teams are in that matters, but the desire, the motivation,” he argued.
