AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli could decide to switch to a 3-5-2 system to try and counteract the formation of Inter in this evening’s Milan derby clash.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, who claim that the Rossoneri coach is even thinking of leaving out Rafael Leao to accommodate the different tactical formation.

Milan have typically played with a back-four formation under Pioli, although there have been some experiments with back-three systems, or more versatile formations that have switched fluidly between the two.

Against Inter, the Rossoneri coach is thinking about mirroring his Inter counterpart Simone Inzaghi’s customary 3-5-2 formation to try and spring a surprise in the tactical battle.

If Pioli were to switch to this system, Sky claim, there is a good chance that he could leave out Leao.

If the Rossoneri were to line up with a 3-5-2 system with two strikers leading the line, it could be Olivier Giroud and Divock Origi who start in attack.
