Former Inter striker Ivan Zamorano feels that playing in the Milan derby is unlike playing in any other match in football.

Speaking in the official matchday programme for the match, the Chilean reflected on what playing in the derby means to him, whilst he also looked back on what he considered to be his favourite derby goal scored whilst playing for the Nerazzurri.

Inter and Milan will face off in the derby this evening, a fixture which is always one of the most hotly-anticipated on the calendar in all of Italian football.

Regardless of the competitive stakes and circumstances surrounding the match, and irrespective of the two teams’ form going into kickoff, the derby always proves to be one of the showpiece occasions of Italian football.

For former Inter striker Zamorano, the derby between Inter and Milan is truly always a unique match.

“The derby is a match unlike any other,” the Chilean explained, “it is a match that you are desperate to win from beginning to end.”

Zamorano continued that “The goal I scored in the 3-1 win in 1997 was an incredible feeling, I anticipated the ball in before anyone else and jumped higher than everyone, scoring in the way I often did, with a header from Djorkaeff’s corner.”

“For me the joy was endless, we won an incredible match and I scored a special goal.”
