Inter striker Lautaro Martinez looks to have cast aside whatever remained of the doubts about whether he is a top-class striker with his performance and goal against AC Milan in the derby yesterday evening.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who note that the Argentine has not been without his critics, but that there is little more that he has to do to silence them now.

Over the past few seasons in an Inter shirt, Martinez has attracted doubt and skepticism, often from his own fans just as much as rival supporters.

Long goal droughts and questions about whether he could rise to the occasion in the big matches have prevented the 25-year-old from being universally regarded as a top-class striker.

However, Martinez’s form ever since returning from the winter break as a World Cup break has been nothing short of outstanding, as he has looked confident and relentless, and scored at a rate of right around a goal a game.

Against Milan yesterday evening, the Argentine not only scored the game’s only goal to deliver three points and a derby victory to his team, but also put in an overall excellent shift that showed his full bag of tricks.

For the Corriere, there can no longer be any doubt about it – Martinez has proved himself to be an absolutely top-class player in an Inter shirt.
