Inter wingback Federico Dimarco feels that the team showed a different approach in the Milan derby this evening than they had done in the same fixture one year ago.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, via FCInterNews, the 25-year-old stressed that the Nerazzurri’s attitude made a difference as they saw out the win rather than allowing the result to slip late on as they had done in their clash with the Rossoneri last February.

Last season, Inter had been 1-0 up for a large portion of the derby, but a quickfire brace from Rossoneri striker Olivier Giroud saw their city rivals take all three points.

This will have led to some worries, perhaps, that a similar outcome would be on the card after Inter only had a one-goal lead to show for a dominant first half this time around, and were unable to score another goal in the second half.

However, the Nerazzurri saw out the match and the win, and for his part, Dimarco was not surprised that they were able to.

“We’re happy, we deserved this because I don’t think there was ever any doubt about the result, just as had been the case during the Supercoppa.”

“Anything can happen in football if you’re 1-0 up, as happened last season,” the wingback looked back.

“But today we took to the pitch in a different way from last time around,” he continued, “we played really well.”

Of having come into the match as favourites, Dimarco said that “I think that when you go into the derby as favourite you have everything to lose, but today we proved the opposite.”

“We played a great match, brought home the win, we’re happy.”

As for what’s next, Dimarco said that “We have to take it one match at a time, we’ll draw conclusions once we get to the end of the season.”
