Inter Milan’s Form In Head-To-Head Clashes With Direct Rivals Emblematic Of Growth Over The Season, Italian Media Argue

The growth shown by Inter’s performances in matches against their direct rivals in the Serie A title over the course of the season has been a clear sign of the growth of the team as a whole.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who argue that whilst the Nerazzurri have given themselves plenty of work to do with slip-ups throughout the campaign, they are finally cresting in form in the big matches.
Over the first few months of the campaign, head-to-head matches against the biggest team in Serie A looked to be a real Achilles’ heel for Inter.
Losses against all of the likes of Lazio, AC Milan, Roma, and Juventus are a big part of the reason that the Nerazzurri now have a mountain to climb in the Serie A title race.
Moreover, these losses will have introduced no small amount of doubt into the Nerazzurri about what their level truly is.
However, impressive wins against Atalanta and Napoli bookended either side of the long winter break for the World Cup break, and since their victory over the Partenopei last month, Inter have beaten Milan twice and Atalanta once again across different competitions.
There is still a sense that work has to be done despite some of these statement wins, but no longer do the biggest matches appear to be a thorn in the Nerazzurri’s side as they start to glimpse the possibility of a higher level.
