Inter defender Milan Skriniar looks to have gotten through the first real test of Nerazzurri fans’ loyalty to him after he has announced he will leave to join Paris Saint-Germain next season without too many problems.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who describe the 27-year-old as “unscathed” after a Milan derby that saw him received few boos if any from a San Siro crowd who chose to be respectful despite his decision.

There were some worries that Skriniar could receive a hostile reception from Inter supporters after what had become a real soap opera surrounding the former Sampdoria defender’s decision to decline the Nerazzurri’s contract extension offer and leave for PSG.

The past few weeks have been an emotional roller coaster for Inter fans who have made clear that they have hoped that the Slovakian would decide to stay at the club and become captain, only to be bitterly disappointed by his choice to leave.

The situation has threatened to descend into farce after the player got himself sent off for two avoidable yellow cards in a disastrous 1-0 loss to Empoli which was played concurrently to the release of an interview in which his agent essentially defended his decision to leave.

However, the Nerazzurri fans have not turned on Skriniar, or at least have not done so dramatically.

The Slovakian returned to the Inter starting eleven for yesterday evening’s 1-0 derby win over AC Milan, and he put in what has become the expected solid shift in the back three, even if it is one of a now-limited number which will come in a Nerazzurri shirt.

In turn, the player was greeted with a respectful reception which suggests that the fans do not have too many hard feelings despite their undoubted disappointment at the way things are ending.
