Bayern Munich Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic has revealed that Inter target Benjamin Pavard had been the subject of a big offer in January, but that the German club turned it down.

Speaking to German news outlet Sport Bild, via FCInterNews, the Bayern Sporting Director acknowledged that the Bavarians had been tempted by a significant bid for the 26-year-old before deciding to reject it, although he did not say which club it came from.

Pavard is one of the main names linked with Inter as a possible replacement for Milan Skriniar who is set to join Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

The Slovakian had even been linked with a potential departure in the January window, and had this been the case, the Nerazzurri would have had to move to replace him immediately.

Pavard’s name had been one of the main ones linked as a target to replace Skriniar last month, with reports suggesting that the Nerazzurri were ready to make an offer.

Salihamidzic does not hide that there was an offer for the Frenchman, although he does not go as far as to say that it came from Inter.

“Benjamin is an important player, he’s versatile and an important player in defense,” the Bayern executive said.

“We have big goals for the season, and so we decided that we can’t do without him.”

Salihamidzic admitted that “On a financial level, it was an attractive offer, but for us the sporting side of things always comes first.”
