Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti feels that it is important that, despite the significance of Sunday’s derby win over AC Milan, the Nerazzurri immediately put it in their rearview mirror.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Gazzetta TV, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri Vice-President emphasized that the focus is always on the next match ahead, whilst he also spoke about striker Lautaro Martinez and defender Milan Skriniar.

A win in the derby against Milan is always a special event for Inter, and the fact that they produced a very emphatic display to beat the Rossoneri this time around was an added boost for the team.

However, the fact remains that there is still a long and gruelling season ahead for the Nerazzurri.

From Zanetti’s perspective, the important thing is that the team not rest on their laurels, and that their focus already be on a tough away match to Sampdoria.

Zanetti called the derby win “An excellent Inter performance, we approached the match in the best way possible and deserved the win, but it’s already in the past for us.”

“The focus now is already on the match against Sampdoria, which will be tricky,” he continued.

“There will certainly be a big embrace with Deki [Sampdoria coach and former Inter midfielder Dejan Stankovic],” Zanetti noted, “we’ve had unforgettable moments together, although now it’s only right that he does everything for his current team.”

Of the Champions League round of sixteen clash with Porto, the Vice-President said that “It’s certainly an important match for us, and it’s good that we head into it in great form.”

Regarding the form of striker Lautaro Martinez, Zanetti said that “I’m delighted for Lautaro, not just for this current moment in form, but for the entire path he’s on.”

“We showed real vision in signing him, we believed that he could grow into a player like this.”

“He’s a complete striker,” Zanetti said of his countryman Martinez, “he’s proving to be a formidable striker after winning the World Cup with Argentina.”

And regarding defender Milan Skriniar, who plans to leave in the summer, Zanetti said that “Given the financial limitations that we have, we made him an offer that was very significant.”

“He evaluated it, he decided not to extend, but he’s still here until June and he has to give his best until then.”

“Everyone around the club has responded well,” the Vice President said of the situation, “because everyone only thinks about the good of Inter, so we have to put everyone in a position to allow them to perform at their best.”
