Sesto San Giovanni Mayor Roberto Di Stefano feels that if either Inter or AC Milan want to build a new stadium on their own in his area, this would be a possibility.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the Sesto Mayor noted the fact that, among most clubs in Europe, a model that sees clubs owning their stadium jointly is in fact unusual.
The status of Inter and Milan’s new stadium plans remains up in the air as they have yet to receive approval to go ahead with construction within the city of Milan.
The option of building in the nearby Sesto area has always been on the table, whilst the area’s Mayor Di Stefano has always made clear that he would welcome the clubs with open arms.
Moreover, Di Stefano would also be ready to accommodate only one of the clubs building a new stadium on their own.
“If Milan were to make a decision between between March and April, it would be perfect for us,” the Mayor said.
“We can wait for Milan, we’d open to to them right away,” he added.
“It’s also true that the two-club model for stadiums is unusual around Europe.”
