Former Inter defender Andrea Ranocchia feels that current Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti won many friends during his time in charge of Inter.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInter1908, Ranocchia looked back upon the two seasons that he spent together with Spalletti whilst the coach was in charge of the Nerazzurri.

Spalletti has been winning plaudits with the job he’s done in Naples, where he is currently in his second season in charge of Napoli who he currently has well on course to win the Serie A title.

However, the coach had been a fixture in Italian football long before then.

Apart from spells with a number of smaller clubs where he built his reputation, Spalletti is also widely associated with his time in charge of Roma, whilst he also had two seasons as head coach of Inter, where he made a big impression on everyone, especially former defender Ranocchia.

“He always made himself loved, he has a way of speaking that just takes you in,” the former defender said of Spalletti.

“When we’d have dinner parties, we would call and offer to pay the bill, but he always insisted on paying.”

Ranocchia noted of Spalletti that “He’s a very pleasant person, and on a footballing level he has great ideas, he has experience, and he’s showing this very well at Napoli.”
