Legendary former Inter President Massimo Moratti feels that the arrival of defender Walter Samuel from Real Madrid was the moment that really marked the beginning of the club’s best period under his leadership.

Speaking to the defender in a broadcaster by RSI, via FCInterNews, the former Nerazzurri President noted that it was Samuel who seemed to bring with him a period of trophies to the Nerazzurri.

Samuel signed for Inter from Real Madrid in the summer of 2005.

After four good seasons spent with Roma, the Argentine had made the move to the Spanish capital, but never quite kicked on there, and so Inter were able to sign him after just a single campaign spent with Los Blancos.

It certainly proved to be a good piece of business, as the Nerazzurri would go onto win four Serie A titles and the European treble during Samuel’s time at the club, with the defender one of the absolutely key players.

Moratti thanked the Argentine, stating that “I’ll always be grateful, my winning cycle started when you arrived at the club.”
