Inter striker Romelu Lukaku is doing everything that he can so that he is ready to start against Porto in the Champions League later this month.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908, who report that the Belgian wants to convince Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi over the next couple of Serie A matches that he should be the player to start in attack alongside Lautaro Martinez against Porto.

Lukaku’s return to the pitch from injury looks to be timed well to coincide with Inter’s Champions League round of sixteen first leg match against Porto.

However, if the 29-year-old is not showing his best form, there would be no guarantee that he would be the player to start in attack against the Portuguese champions.

Given that Inter have fared well in the Champions League in Lukaku’s absence, it is hardly out of the question that Edin Dzeko could be given the nod over the Belgian.

Accordingly, Lukaku is keen to use the next couple of Serie A matches against Sampdoria and Udinese as well as the training sessions over the next couple of weeks to prove to Inzaghi that he is ready to start against Porto and that he would be the right choice.
